Windows Live Search – new picture every day

I use Live Search. I use Google Search too. I’ve never really used Yahoo! Search. For me, this search engine thing has started in 90’s with Altavista. It was great for me at that time. MSN Toolbar (powered by Silverlight), good UX?

We all (mostly) hate toolbars. They are ugly, they take lot of space and they don’t look compelling and functionality they bringing in are easily described as crapware. When I say they are ugly - I mean that - grayish, with Windows 9x look, they seem to be outdated by years (in IT = centuries).

But new MSN Toolbar looks promising. Powered by Microsoft’s own Silverlight technology it looks slick, sexy and appealing (yeah, I did say it looks sexy). And if you watch Olympics, this shiny stuff will become your good friend.

Yet another astonishing 3D picture viewer (video)

This something that will let you out of your breath and I am not joking. Guys from the University of Washington and Microsoft Research (pretty much the same guys behind Microsoft’s Photosynth technology) have published article called “Finding Paths through World’s Photos”.

Title is somewhat boring, but work these guys have done is astonishing. These days they are presenting their work at SIGGRAPH 2008 conference, and here on UX Passion.com you can see their video. This is something really, really cool.

Windows Live Messenger 9.0 screenshots and details leak

Somewhere near the end of June, Microsoft closed its beta program for Windows Live Messenger 9.0. There have been some rumors about exciting GUI changes, but none of them have seen the light during June.

But, now, things seem to be changing. Rumors regarding GUI are still here, and now they are backed with some leaked screenshots. Some of the news were even speculating that Windows Live Messenger (yes, that IS the ex MSN Messenger) will be using WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) for its GUI.
