World Design Day – We made a green GetAway!

As an old saying goes: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy", so we decided to spend World Design playing, learning and sharing.

As an old saying goes: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, so we decided to spend World Design Days playing, learning, talking, sharing knowledge and experiences, and of course, throwing edibles on hot coals per Croatian tradition.

Spending fun time with ourselves would have not been so much fun if we did not get the best and the brightest from our developer and designer community to join us.

If you ever read a book about “problem solving” as some designers like to think of their work, you would know that every obstacle can be solved if you give it enough time. Simply put, while you do something else, your brain keeps on working. To facilitate this state of mind, we brought a lot of games and spent a lot of time relaxing and just chatting.

Some minds got clouded by Mastika (aniseed flavoured brandy, particular favourite of Greeks, Bulgarians and Macedonians) that one of the clients brought. Others got bewitched by the Grička vještica (locally brewed beer whose name translates as The witch of Grič, Grič being a part of Zagreb).

We spent some great time at Kuchica, a romantic old wooden cottage. We put on some music, cracked open a few cold ones and barbecued some more, until the sun went down. Night brought out the games. Really interesting games. All sort of them. Some even stayed up playing them until morning. Others were so worn out by the hard work of relaxing that they managed to fall asleep in the trunk of their car. We know who you are, crazy diamond :)

Keen to grasp a bit of atmosphere?

Letter S in World Design Days implies more than one day to celebrate, so on the next day we went hiking and cycling up and down Zagorje. After 30 or so kilometers of exercise, we ended up at local restaurants grabbing some nice food and pints of beer.

In the end, post holiday blues got us, as we thought abut going back to the daily grind. If you care to join us next time, just drop us a line. We will make sure to let you know when and where it will happen.

Stay passionate and don’t forget to celebrete next World Design Day!
