Channel 9 source code released

I’m sure you’ve heard about Channel 8, or Channel 9 (we all know about that one), or Channel 10 or… And few days ago Microsoft has released source code of the original Channel 9 web portal, and one is now available on Codeplex. So, just go get it and show your new killer project to the world.

You should however take into account that this is not exactly a code that is currently powering Channel 9 – but Erik Porter has mentioned that they do have plans of releasing the whole source code.

So, you go run now on Codeplex and start creating your own Channel, or you can (as I might do) wait a little bit longer for the full source code release.

All Microsoft Channel sites look good providing users with fine experience, but now, when source is released, I’m hoping to see even better user implementations of their technology. OK, maybe nothing on YouTube scale, but some cool webcasting, screen casting, news, video blogging solutions are all in.

Silverlight, Expression Blend and other Expression Studio tools – I can easily see all of them employed on this code and creating something really engaging and cool.

What I hate about it? Dull and boring name of the release: EvNet Community Platform. C’mon guys, you can do better than this. Really, I mean… well OK.

Anyway…

So, seems that Microsoft is opening each and every day more and more. Do you share my feelings that Microsoft is going to become biggest open source company sometime in future or this is just some weird ph(r)ase? Will Redmondians persist in sharing their source with the community? How is open source community looking into this one? Share your feelings.

MS will be biggest on both fronts proprietary and open source (Linux community isn’t a single entity, hence the reasoning)
Check out the new visitmix site as well, its using some asp MVC thingy, supposed to be top end.
